Hi, I'm lh

I was diagnosed with ovarian/peritoneal cancer cancer in September of 2017. I had surgery to remove and debulk. I underwent two rounds of chemo after that. It was awful. I am having issues again and tumor numbers are high again. I go in on Monday to possibly discuss going back on chemo again. Carboplatin and gemzar was mentioned in a previous visit. If someone out there has experience with this combo please let me know. I don’t know why but this round of chemo terrifies me.

Hi, I'm Ashhappy

I just started back chemo after 18 mos. stable last week. Before I was on Carbo/taxol and later doxil and Avastin for maintenance. This time around I am on Cisplatin/Gemzar. I’m doing a different schedule now, where before I was on every 3 weeks. This time I’m doing week 1, week 2 then off week 3 & 4. It sure is pretty strong for my body, as I have elevated liver function and low platelets of 61,000. I’m super tired the first two days then I gradually get my appetite back by Sat. and I’m starving over the weekend through to Tuesday thid weekl Its harder in the body I think oh and I’m starting to have some neuropathy in my fingers and toes…yes in the first week!; I had awful neuropathy from carbo/taxol took almost 18 mos to feel somewhat better! Good luck & God bless!

Hi, I'm Susan H O.

I was diagnosed with stage 2B Ovarian Cancer in July 2012. I had just turned 62 the day after my surger! I had years of problems with Endometriosis and infertility but at the time the treatment for that when I was in my 20’s was much different than it is now.
I had 7 rounds of chemo at that time and then developed a DVT after my last chemo. Dr. ran a bunch of tests and found I had 2 blood clotting disorders I never knew I had – needed a filter put in my inferior vena cava and had to have a port put in prior to this happened. I then had the filter removed once my blood clotting issues were dealt with by the Hematologist/Oncologist in the practice and it took over a year to get it regulated. So, for about 3 years I had to go every 3 months, then every 6 months. This year my visit in Sept. was the first time it was a year since my last check-up. They had felt it had been long enough & I was doing so well so yearly was now appropriate.
Well – my Cancer has returned and I am still in shock. My CA-125 shot up from 32 last year to 75 now. They didn’t seem TOO concerned but also sent me for additional, more informative lab work and that number was supposed to be no more than 96 and mine was 327. I had a CT Scan in between and it confirmed it is back. So, since my Aunt and her daughter, my cousin, had both died from Ovarian Cancer they sent me to a Genetics Councelor which was just yesterday. The new Gynecologist/Oncologist in the practice does not have hospital privileges yet so I need to go for a consultation to another Oncologist/Gynecologist in Fort Wayne, IN (I live in South Bend,IN) and then I will have to have my surgery there. I may need to have a HIPEC chemo treatment right after surgery in which they flood your abdomen with the special chemo and leave it in for about 1 hr. before they then stitch me up. Since this is in the midst of the pandemic and I am already stressed out about that, I am feeling very overwhelmed. I just can’t believe after 8 years, it is back. They are thinking we caught it early enough and it has not spread too much and may behind my colon and perhaps my omentum. I live alone and all my family is out of town, even my daughter & her husband and my 3 grandsons (my daughter is adopted, so glad she does not have to be concerned with all this as far as being in our genes)! Has anyone else gone THIS long before recurrence. I am more afraid this time than 8 years ago so any words of advise would be greatly appreciated!
